Big Guns and Then Some

Moorehead Makes a Full House

The three big guns for the New Jersies did their damage, but even their supposed supporting cast was firing. The advantage the Swamp Rats were supposed to have with their wide receivers they did not, as their New Jersies counterparts held Stan Byer-Mann and Noah Fence to 20 yards receiving between them. For Baton Rouge's seeming to be one of the premier teams in the league after its domination of the Western Conference along with Casper, the New Jersies' domination would seem to extend to the Eastern Conference, which was much more competitive.

At least the order of the plot made it look more interesting. After the New Jersies dominated the first half to post a 16-0 lead and appeared to have them knocked out cold, the Swamp Rats took charge immediately in the second half, scoring on their first two possessions to make a game of it. All-West MVP QB Nolan Void discovered his running backs as pass targets, with the New Jersies smothering his talented WRs.

The opening drive of the second half was capped by a 29-yard pass play from Void to RB Gunther Hell. Then, after forcing a punt, Void marched his team 63 yards in 12 plays, including 8 completed passes out of 10, 4 of them to RBs including the TD of 9 yards to RB Barry DeHatchet. The drive began with a 13-yard sack of Void, the New Jeries getting even that sort of lick.

The New Jersies responded with a long drive of their own, going well into the 4th quarter, the biggest play a 21-yard pass to WR Shelby Cummin-Roundemounten, one of those wide receivers supposed to be outclassed by the Swamp Rats. All-everything TE Bud Ugly, who had 8 catches for 106 yards for the game, struck his blow with a 12-yard TD catch to cap the drive.

Ugly would strike again just moments later, piling his dominance on top of that already mounted by his teammates. The put-away drive consisted of three plays after the New Jersies forced three and out. Mainly it was a 48-yard run by Juan Moorehead, with the toss to Ugly sealing the deal.

Moorehead was the real bully move for the New Jersies. With QB Upton O'Good and Ugly the clear advantage, Moorehead's big game meant the New Jersies were able to dominate the rush and with the rush, something that Baton Rouge was hoping for with their tandem of Hell and DeHatchet. Moorehead had key plays on two of the first-half scoring drives, and on the other one, fellow RB Hyam D. Wahlroos added insult to injury by busting a 31-yard TD run after a 22-yard jaunt by O'Good.

The New Jersies QB was ruthlessly efficient, all Baton Rouge could have feared, from the opening play from scrimmage, a 17-yard run. O'Good completed of 17 of 28 passes for 255 yards and 2 TDs and rushed 14 times for 74 yards and a score. It was only Moorehead's breakout performance, perhaps cinched by his 48-yard run to set up the final score, that topped the New Jersies QB in the Hyperbowl appearance he finally got after 10 years with the franchise. O'Good led State Pen. to two straight championships in college.

Cummin-Roundemounten finished with 5 catches for 82 yards, to add to the humiliation of the Swamp Rats and their wide receivers.
