Macon

29 OT

Peoria

23

Waves: RB Hugh Bastard 11 rushes 98 yards 1 TD, 1 catch 5 yards.
People: QB Hunt Grubb 20/44 passes 241 yards 2 TDs, 8 rushes 22 yards.

Waves Finally Submerge People

Running back Moe Lester ended the game with a 13-yard TD run, after his Macon Waves had been taken to overtime by Peoria. While the Macon rushing duo of Lester and Bastard upstaged the league's leading rusher, Peoria's Thurston Quenchable, Peoria dominated the passing game with Hunt Grubb and by throttling Macon QB Boyd Bwane for 78 yards passing and 2 interceptions. Bwane, however, added 45 yards and a TD rushing to the Wave cause.

Connecticut

37

Orlando

10

Yankees: WR Ben D'Ellenbach 9 catches 174 yards 1 TD.
Dons: RB Love Macon 7 rushes 86 yards.

Yankees Turn Tables on Dons

A relay of sorts continues: Orlando plastered a winged Montgomery team (Noah Mittens was injured) but in doing so suffered an injury to starting TE Studs Galore. Now the Yankees beat Orlando as badly, but lost their best running back, Randy Bastard, in the effort. Bastard is most unlikely unable to return even before the Hyperbowl in two weeks, should his team make it there. Bastard rushed for 86 yards in the game, which was a significant contribution, but Connecticut went at Orlando with the more expected passing attack of Cary A. Bigstick and his receivers, the league's best. But it was wide receiver D'Ellenbach who was most dangerous to the Dons. While the Dons' feared rushing tandem of Macon and Manuel Laber were in evidence, QB Dick Grub was allowed only 9 completions of 24 attempts passing.

Olympia

24

Los Angeles

6

Gods: QB Xavier Onassis 22/39 passes 244 yards 1 int., 5 rushes 125 yards.
Devils: WR Kenny Lingis 6 catches 108 yards.

Gods Beat Devils

While the Los Angeles Devils may not have had the most respectable record, they were a test for the Olympia Gods, but the test also proved just what the Gods have in quarterback Onassis. The Devils' wide receiver pair of Lingis and Ty Dass dominated their God counterparts, giving Onassis fewer targets. But Onassis also has the West's best tight end, Luke Filthy, who here had 8 catches for 104 yards, thus still managed to pass for 244 yards. And he had running to turn to, as well, with a stunning rush tally on just a handful of carries. Olympia makes their first appearance conference championship appearance since 1987.

Monterey

24

Las Vegas

22

Jacks: RB Buster Hymen 12 rushes 111 yards, 1 catch 5 yards.
Sinners: RB Buster Gutt 12 rushes 75 yards.

Jacks Are Better Than Vegas

For a match-up that was significant in so many ways, there was a corker of a game to serve it: conference rivals, Monterey having beaten Vegas badly in the regular season and claimed the division championship after Vegas helped them by beating Wichita, Vegas the two-time defending league champions and a Western final participant the last seven years, and both teams seeking to become the first in the league to win four Hyperbowls. It will be hard for the rest of the playoffs and even the Hyperbowl to top this one. The Sinners scored twice in succession to take a 22-21 lead by the middle of the fourth quarter. They had sacked Monterey quarterback Heller Highwater for a safety early in the third quarter, and an interception set up the second successive scoring drive for the lead. But after another interception of Highwater, the Jacks forced the Sinners to punt, and Highwater redeemed himself with the winning drive that included passes of 10 yards to wide receiver Ira Fuse, 11 to WR Jacques Tactic, 19 to TE Bud Suck, and an 11-yard run of his own. Monterey kicker Orson Beanbag nailed the 40-yard field goal. While Vegas intercepted Monterey quarterback Heller Highwater 4 times, the Jacks returned the favor by all but shutting down Vegas all-everything wide receiver Jason Rainbows. Hymen proved the difference, almost equaling the rushing total of Vegas' start backfield of Gutt and Drew Blood. It will be the first time since 1998 the Western Conference Championship has not involved Las Vegas. Monterey makes their second straight appearance to the Western final. They lost to Vegas there last year.
