New Jersies

31

Macon

14

New Jersies: QB Upton O'Good 20/30 passes 290 yards 2 TDs, 12 rushes 128 yards 1 TD.
Waves: WR Dean Bat 9 catches 119 yards 1 TD.

Jersies Top Waves

The New Jersies had one blemish on their record. On March 10, the Macon Waves went into New Jersey and won 35-20. At the time, it didn't look as auspicious. But the New Jersies did not lose again, handed Manhattan their only loss, and having beaten Montgomery even before that Macon game, ascended as the best team in the Eastern Conference. Then the Waves, the defending Eastern Conference champions, beat Manhattan in the wildcard game and, sure enough, landed in the path of the New Jersies again. O'Good and TE Bud Ugly exploded for this playoff matchup (Ugly had 11 catches for 165 yards and a TD), but the difference was the way the New Jersies somehow nullifed the rushing attack of Macon RBs Hugh Bastard and Moe Lester. They had just 50 yards together. Bat and WR Waylon Wall (8 catches 118 yards 1 TD) were plenty of trouble for the New Jersies, but without that rushing game, Macon was no match for O'Good and Ugly, despite neutralizing in turn the New Jersies rushing game, its '07 development: RBs Juan Moorehead and Hyam D. Wahlroos. The New Jersies are in their first Eastern Conference Final.

Montgomery

41

Maine

10

Cliffs: QB Boris Toutierse 22/38 passes 267 yards 5 TDs, 8 rushes 17 yards.
Attractions: WR Cole Esterhal 2 catches 43 yards.

Cliffs Dwarf Attractions

Maine minimized the yardage of Montgomery star WR Noah Mittens (only 2 catches for 68 yards but 2 TDs), and all but shut down the rushing of Eastern Conference MVP Toutierse, but Toutierse was like water, flowing elsewhere when dammed up. He threw TD passes to three other receivers, including one off the bench, Calder Bluff, and RB Ira Pent. Defense did the rest, as the Hyperbowl hopes of veterans RB Xavier Breath and WR Lou Screws and rookie QB Jock Rash were dashed on the Cliffs. Rash was held to just 76 yards passing and intercepted twice. Breath and RB Juarez Hell rushed for only 61 yards combined. Toutierse and company now head for a showdown of 1-loss teams in the Eastern Conference final. Montgomery attains its 8th Conference Final, but has never gotten past that to the Hyperbowl.

Monterey

37

Los Angeles

0

Jacks: WR Ira Fuse 14 catches 163 yards, 2 rushes 5 yards 1 TD.
Devils: RB Rowdy Neighbors 9 rushes 38 yards, 1 catch 3 yards.

Jacks Throw Devils

If Los Angeles looked like a pretender up against Monterey coming into the game, they did nothing to argue against that. The defending league champs opened their campaign for an unprecedented fifth league title in convincing fashion, showing off every facet of their 14-1 domination of the Western Conference this season. Along with Fuse's performance, RB Buster Hymen rushed for 118 yards and 2 TDs and QB Heller Highwater threw for 305 yards and 2 TDs. The only bad news for Monterey was WR Jacques Tactic, who left the game injured, though it's not known yet if he will have to miss further games.

Casper

20

Iowa

38

Ghosts: WR I.B. Long 6 catches 74 yards 1 TD.
Bunch: WR Hollis Assaway 12 catches 145 yards 1 TD.

Bunch Hoodwinks Ghosts

Not so fast, Jock Kitsch. Hollis Assaway is still here. The juggernaut Kitsch appeared to have Casper on a course for the Hyperbowl. The West's Newcomer of the Year and Most Valuable Player, Kitsch led the West in rushing and Casper to a division title, stepping over an Iowa team that had been a rising story, too. But this Bunch, which has been building up promise after repeated disappointing seasons have given it high draft picks, leap-frogged Casper by shutting down Kitsch, dominating the rushing game with their own rookie Orson DeWater and veteran Nick romancer, and, or course, unleashing Assaway. Casper tried an onsides kick after pulling to 20-31 late in the 4th quarter, but Iowa recovered and drove the short field to extend the gap. Iowa heads to its first conference championship game, against defending league champion Monterey.
