New Jerseys Reverse Decision with Horrors

Amityville's 24-10 regular season victory helped drop the New Jerseys from division lead to third for the last wildcard spot, making them come to Amityville as well. But everything the Horrors did in the last game to shut down the lethal tandem of QB Upton O'Good and TE Bud Ugly they could not do this time, while the New Jerseys kept up at least their side of the defensive struggle from last time. The New Jerseys were pitching a shutout into the fourth quarter, when Amityville scored a meaningless TD on a 16-yard run by WR Hugo Gurl, the player who hurt the New Jerseys the most last time. O'Good passed for 284 yards and two TDs, and while this time, also a reversal, it was Amityville RB O.J. Didit who led the game in rushing, with 72 yards, New Jerseys RB Juan Moorehead tallied 63 yards and a TD rushing and added 39 yards receiving. Gurl was limited to 7 catches for 69 yards and that rushing TD. The New Jerseys held Amityville QB Houghton Holler to just 103 yards passing. The more playoff-savvy New Jerseys thus rose to stop the rise of Amityville and now travel to Columbus to see if they can continue the division reversal.

Bullets Comeback Notches Bad Guys

And a reversal in the West, too, this one not only of the regular-season result, but continuing defending league champion Dodge's late season resurgence into the playoffs, repeating last season's surprise run. And who else to lead it, to pick this time to pop up with a dominating performance, but RB Hugo Faq-Yusef. The Dodge RB duo of Faq-Yusef and Evelyn Olivus was the best in the league last season and the spearhead of their success, but was quieter this season. Even in the Bullets' late season rally was due more to their reinvigorated passing game, with QB Tyrone Essores and WR Nestor Vipers improving drastically to divert opposition from the rush. This time with the Bad Guys, a similar defensive struggle led to Dodge taking the edge with Faq-Yusef, and Essores outplayed his counterpart, Abilene QB Stu Padasso. The two traded TD on successive possessions in the second quarter, Essores running for a 10 yards, Padasso for 25. But Faq-Yusef scored on the last play of the half to cash in on a short-field opportunity after a 47-yard punt return from Dodge WR Nestor Vipers, and the Bullets never lost the lead again. Abilene pulled within one point on a 35-yard Felix Unguent field goal in the third quarter, but that's all the scoring they managed in the second half, Dodge scoring on the next drive on 2-yard pass from Essores to Vipers. Dodge now heads to a rematch in Wichita, the team thought to be the decisive Western favorite until the Bullets slammed them last week 32-17.
