Sherwood Feelgood wins Demetrius, surprise or outright
DeSade S&M quarterback Sherwood Feelgood was announced the recipient of the Demetrius Award as the most valuable player of the 2022 season in the SCAB. Feelgood became the third Leatherman to receive the award and the recipient of the fourth award by a Leatherman, after QB Gil O'Teen (the current head coach of DeSade) in 1999 and QB Payne Indiass who won it twice in 2002 and 2003.
The result was something of a surprise because Northwestsoutheastern QB Lawton Common was thought to have the most player of the week awards, and Puke RB Yuri Pulsiv was thought to be a main contender because of the success of Puke. On the last week of the season, Pulsiv did not have an outstanding game and was overtaken by two others for the rushing lead, and Feelgood led DeSade to a win over the Fighting Pacifists, for which he received another national Player of the Week award.
In the end, Feelgood had three national marks and four regional for a total of 10 points in the final Demetrius tally, easily outpacing Common and Pulsiv, and with his placement at the top of the final Demetrius poll, finished with 20 points, four clear of Pulsiv. The 20 points tied him with Indiass for the second highest tally, the highest held by QB Hugh Jasso of Bunyan, who had 21 in 2016. (The largest margin of victory is 8, held by both Indiass and Moonshine State QB Cody Pendant.)
Feelgood stood out by the season measure as well. His quarterback composite (combination of rushing yards and passing composite) of 1579.1 was more than 100 points above the nearest competitor, Common, and just more than 100 shy of the record, 1687.9, set by Cody Pendant in 2020. Feelgood topped the league in both passing composite, 802.1, and rushing for a QB, with 777 yards, more than 100 yards above the nearest competitor, again Common. He topped the league in passing yards, 3,421, and net completions, 160 (and best completion percentage, .691).
The list of those Feelgood topped, the top ten finalists, was notable for who was missing, as well. Puke QB Vince Spleen, who won the award last year as a freshmen, did not place in the top ten. While the Mess didn't have quite the season passing as last, RB Yuri Pulsiv showed how much more Puke had been even last season, as he helped dominate games like that against Heroes of Polar Exploration Memorial College. Pulsiv finished 2nd for the award thanks to his number of player of the week awards, even though Common was 2nd in the final tally. Common finished 3rd, and those three were well ahead of the rest of the field, as expected.
After Common by the widest gap of five points, Kootsville Tech QB Jerome Damfalt placed as something of a surprise, but worthy for leading the Spitters back to the Little 10 championship. Next on the list are HPEMC RB Yukon Volkov and league-leading rusher, Our Lady RB Isaac Dick, followed by the two wide receivers who led the league all season in receptions and yardage, Rusty Fawcett of Lady Warship, and Marxist Orthodox's Wallace Cummin-Downe, who also broke the single-game record for receiving yardage with 268 on October 29 against Holy Grail. Moonshine St QB Macon Dew and Whooperville A&M QB Luke Ford Tuitt completed the top ten.
