DeSade S&M showed they could play with State Pen. for one half, then it was back to State Pen. domination. The Convicts won their second straight league championship after falling behind 10-0 to the Leathermen. DeSade S&M drove to the State Pen. 11 yard line on their first drive, where they had to settle for a field goal. But two possessions later, the Leathermen started on their 38 after a punt and scored in just 3 plays. After rb Drew Blood lost a yard, qb Gil O'Teen ran 34 yards on a scramble. On the next play O'Teen hit wr Nestor Vipers on a 29-yard TD pass, to stun the Convicts with a 10-0 first quarter. State Pen. recovered quickly, on the ensuing possession driving 87 yards to a 1-yard TD plunge by qb Upton O'Good. But DeSade held out the remainder of the half to lead 10-7. The tide turned on State Pen.'s first drive of the second half. On a fake punt play from their own 21, O'Good and te Butch Femme completed a 35-yard pass play. Three plays later, rb Ernesto Hornets busted loose for a 34-yard TD run. The Convicts consumed most of the third quarter on a 94-yard drive, capped by a three-yard Hornets TD run. State Pen. settled for a field goal on their next drive in the fourth quarter, but following that, DeSade qb O'Teen threw an interception which gave State Pen. the ball on the Leathermen 24. Three plays later, te Femme caught the 5-yard pass for the score. DeSade would also fumble on their next possession. Hornets ended up with 97 yards rushing on 15 carries and was the game MVP. Te Femme had 114 yards on 7 receptions. O'Good was 19 of 29 for 284 yards, and also rushed 7 times for 34 yards. The Convicts have now gone two full seasons, including post-season play, without a loss. The last time State Pen. lost was in the 1996 Western Semifinal, to Lady Warship 23-10, and the last time in regular season was November 9, 1996, when they lost to Birddrops Aeronautics 27-6.
