Jan Fest brings 8th Demetrius Award to Northwestsoutheastern
Northwestsoutheastern quarterback Jan Fest received the Demetrius Award as the most valuable player of the 2025 season in the SCAB. Fest became the 7th Nwse player to win the award, but it is the 8th Award for the school (QB Constantine Angst won two), which is the most of any school. Puke has six. Fest is the first Fighting Pacifist to win the award since QB Constantine Angst in 2013, and joins Angst, Virgil Reality, Sebastian Ophuls and Warren Peace as Nwse QBs to win the award, and WR Avery Cunningham and RB Nick Romancer.
But there was much more drama to the decision than anyone knew during the regular season. With Nwse dominating the league and Fest leading the passing composite rating all the way, it looked like there wasn't even anyone on the field with him in competition for the award. When the season ended, Moonshine St RB Kees Abir, Mountain Valley RB Randy Little Budlicher and Corncob WR Golden Graham all finished with accomplishments that made them obvious candidates, though still not seeming challengers. It was Birddrops QB Lofton Bomz, a freshman, who provided the surprise challenge in the final tally.
Bomz was named player of the week the most times of any player during the regular season, and twice was league player of the week. These numbers go into the award figuring along with a final, general ranking. Bomz's weekly awards and final ranking number gave him a tie with Fest, but by rule, the tie is decided by position in the final overall ranking. In 2016, Bunyan QB Hugh Jasso surprised the expected winner, KT QB Harlan Daggers by surpassing him with 12 weekly points, the most ever accumulated. Bomz had 9 points this year. The last tie was in 2014, when Cretin QB E. Chitton Dye and Bigfoot QB Harry Bastard each had 14 points total, but Dye had the superior final ranking position.
Abir finished 3rd in the finally tally, followed by Graham, then Budlicher. Our Lady freshman QB Justice Wunce got a boost from 7 weekly points to finish 6th, ahead of Cretin QB Arlo Asteem, who was higher in the final ranking. Slash & Burn A&M sensational freshman QB Buster Cherry was 8th, and HPEMC QB Chance Enhell broke up the final poll by placing 9th on weekly points alone. State Pen RB Anthony Kilder rounded out the top 10, with Nwse RB Dustin DeBrie falling out despite placing 10th in the overall poll.
